I've been making instructional painting dvds for some time now, always looking for a better way to present information and encourage good learning. In many ways I just stumbled across this workshop teaching format which was one of those rare things that all seemed to fall into place at the right time - a happy coincidence of the right background experience, the right techology, enough eager students and my own will to reach out to other artists around the world from my studio in New Zealand.

What makes this learning experience so uniquely powerful are its 4 core concepts:

1. You are given a well structured painting challenge to complete.
2. You get the opportunity to compare your work with hundreds of other artists painting the same subject.
3. The full critiques I do of several student paintings similar to yours allow you to apply the exact same concepts to your own work.
4. In the video I take you step by step through the process I took in developing the demonstration painting and point out the do's and don'ts.

If you're really keen to improve your painting quickly I would suggest you follow the format of the original online workshops in that you do the painting challenge first by following my initial suggestions, then watch the demo video and apply that new knowledge to a second painting of the same subject. If you do that consistently I would expect to see some solid improvements in your painting within just a few months, rather than many years of struggling by yourself.
