Good outdoor (plein air) landscape painting is considered by some artists to be the height of painting achievement simply because it's so difficult to do well. It has all the elements of still life and figure painting (light, form and color) with the added difficulties of atmosphere, weather, constantly changing light and compositions which you can't physically rearrange. As a self professed landscape painter I now find landscape painting to be the easiest of the painting disciplines, due only to familiarity, but I still feel that any artist who can pull off a good plein air painting deserves a medal - it's something I still struggle with, so to see it done well is a small miracle in my book.
"The plein air artist gets to do it all - location scouting, directing, poetry, and painting. Each painting is part of a continuous tale, capturing the moment and recording the forever-changing landscape of life." ( Randall Sexton ) More plein air quotes >>
Landscape - Winding Beach Path

"I really enjoyed the lesson... The shots of the colours used and how you mix and lay them out on your palette were also helpful. The lesson notes with the tone chart, finished painting and palette of colours was a real bonus.
You have created a very professional lesson and I don't know how you could improve on what you have. Just keep up the good work!"
